We are beginning to identify bugs and other insects at Pleasley, which for amateurs can be a very daunting task!

This is a Tiger Beetle taken by Martin Stubbs on site.
The various habitats provide a huge number of insects and we frequentley do sweep nets over the different areas. The problem is identifying the hundreds of insects we find!
A kids 'bug day' is usually run on the May Bank holiday which provides us with 30 pairs of extra eyes and bug collecting pots!
Alongside the usual ants, snails, woodlice and flies, last year we added to our database Tiger Beetles, Devil Coach Horse beetles, Spring Tails and Rove Beetles.
When we do the pond dipping we find Whirlygigs, Dragonfly nymphs, Great Diving beetles and Water Snails.

This is a Dragonfly Nymph that has crawled out of the water to hatch, leaving behind this hard, empty case.

A few sightings of scorpian flies have been spotted on Long Hedge Lane. Taken by Caron Stubbs.
