Pleasley Pit Nature Study Group provides its members with good company, exercise, an absorbing hobby and the pleasure and satisfaction of helping wildlife to survive and thrive. The members of the group come from all sorts of backgrounds and ages, totaling around 100 members.
The Group supports the wider Community, not only by maintaining and improving the Park but by helping visitors to appreciate the wildlife that lives here.
The group have access to experts both within the group and from outside, covering all aspects of environmental management, nature conservation and improvement.
Some members of the group have 'adopted' specialist areas of study. Through individual study and in some cases, short courses, they are becoming more knowledgeable in these fields and now act as 'experts' and recorders, sharing their knowledge with other members and the general public.
The group give advice and enthusiasm freely to all, but welcome any new members to the group.
Throughout the summer months the activities of the group focuses on enjoyment of the site and recording the various species and habitats, generating a picture on how the regeneration is progressing.
All wildlife observations on site are recorded and reported back to the relevant authorities such as Derbyshire Ornithological Society and the British Arachnid Society. It is estimated that the members have put in around 60,000 'recording and observation' hours!
In the winter months regular work parties meet on a Saturday morning and spend a pleasant hour or two working on the various projects around the site ( to see past projects go to the volunteering pages ) .
After the work party a hot cup of tea and biscuit are usually available.
